Today was a pretty tough day. We learned this morning that Great Grandpa Silva (Papa) won't be with us much longer as his health has gotten significantly worse. I was supposed to fly down this weekend but we felt that it would be best to go now instead, just in case. I hurried home after work, packed a bag, had dinner with Ted and Maddy, and then headed to the airport (where I am writing this blog post). I got a cute picture of Ted and Maddy before I left at least.

We took Maddy to the public library that is right down the street from our house today. We got a library card and checked out a few books to bring home. She was pretty overwhelmed by all of the books and kept grabbing them off the shelves, asking us to read them, but then would get distracted by page 2 and go and grab another book. It was pretty cute really!
Today was my last day of work at UW Tacoma so after we all got home, Ted and I went out to dinner and then to a jazz bar with Max and Tiff. Gloria came over to babysit Maddy and they had a great time! It was a great night overall for everyone. Here are some photos from Maddy and Gloria's night of fun!

Tomorrow is my last day of work at my current job so my coworkers threw me a going away party. They (aka. Jenn) bought the most beautiful cake. There were so many amazing students, faculty and staff there who all shared the most heart warming thoughts about me leaving. It was much appreciated!

Today was Maddy's first day back at daycare in 12 days (due to illness, weekends, and our vacation). She was SO excited to go to daycare and see her friends and teachers! She was worn out and went to bed about a half hour earlier than normal. Here she is passed out in her crib!

We drove back from Sunriver today and Maddy did great in the car. We stopped in Gresham for lunch at Chipotle. Maddy gobbled down her lunch and even drank from her first non-sippy cup (milk from a box). We were sad to see our vacation end and say goodbye to our family but know more fun vacations await us in the future.
We took the babies (they're not really babies anymore but I can't stop calling them that) sledding today. We didn't want to go anywhere super scary so we found a playground with a little hill. Hayden had the most fun and Maddy seemed a little more scared. They went down the hill quite a few times though and had a good time.

I'm starting by apologizing for being behind on posting pics. I've been taking them, just not getting them up (due to job transitioning, a sick Maddy, and getting ready for vacation). Here is my catch-up!
This was the third day in a row of Maddy staying home from daycare with Mom and Dad to recover from being sick. It was by far the BEST day filled with eating and playing (which was not present the past week). She especially had fun playing with empty plastic cups from the pantry.

This photo does not reflect the day we had but luckily was how the day ended. Maddy was extremely sick today (very high fever, not eating or drinking and slept 95% of the day on either Mom or Dad). Around 5pm her fever spiked and her breathing started becoming labored. After a call to our pediatrician, we took her to Urgent Care. Her fever had reached 103.7 and her oxygen levels were low. The doctor worked to get her fever down and get her breathing back on track and after an hour or so, she was doing much better. After we got home, she actually ate some crackers and drank water (first food in 36 hours), and was in a pretty good mood. This photo was right before bed when she was relatively happy and responding well to Ted tickling her feet :)

Well this cold/flu season is kicking our butt! Maddy had a fever much of the weekend and this morning was significantly worse. Mom and Maddy stayed home this morning and then Dad and Maddy stayed home this afternoon. Maddy slept a lot and when she was awake was grouchy :( We went to the doctor mid-day who said she has another ear infection (we can't catch a break) and a cold/virus. We have new medicine and orders to get lots of rest and fluids. Here's a photo of Maddy sleeping on Mommy and Daddy's bed this morning.

One of the "challenges" that we know will present itself when I start leaving for work at 5:45am (before anyone else is awake) is that Ted will have to get Maddy up and ready for daycare on his own. The major issue with that is that Ted has proven to not be great at doing Maddy's hair (which you HAVE to do, or else it's a nightmare!). We practiced today since he has about 2 weeks to master it before it's all him.
Overheard in the process were things like:
Me: No, don't put the hair through the rubber band, put the rubber band over the hair.
Ted: Um, ok, I'll try, although I don't know how those two things are different.
Here is the final product (he did AMAZING)!
Ted and Maddy decided to play hide and seek in the coffee table. I was upstairs showering and when I turned off the water I heard an excited squeal over and over (Maddy). This was a very fun game :)
P.S. Sorry about posting this a day late. I went to a play in Seattle last night and it threw things off a little.

Today I got a new job! Well, to be honest I've been working on it for a while (applied in December, interviewed in January and have been waiting waiting and more waiting for the official offer for a few weeks). It's now official though! I will be the Assistant Director of Community Standards and Student Conduct at the University of Washington in Seattle (where I originally started in the NW 8 years ago). I am really excited! Even though I work at the UW now as well, I'm modeling my "new" school's t-shirt :)

Today I'm "breaking" the rules of picture of the day (ok, really there aren't any rules, so I can do whatever I want). Instead of posting a new picture that I took today, I'm posting an old one. This is a picture of Maddy when she was 9 weeks old and my Grandpa Silva (who she calls Papa). He is really sick right now and in the hospital so we've been looking at pictures of him a lot. She can say Papa now and woke up this morning saying it over and over again. We love you Papa, get well soon!
