3 days overdue, on October 13, Julie's contractions began. The contractions were about 4-5 minutes apart from 2-5pm and Ted called the doctor to find out the next steps. After a quick consultation and everyone getting cleaned up and ready to go, Julie, Ted, Kim & Larry (Julie's parents) and Merlene (Ted's mom) all headed to Saint Joseph's Hospital.
We arrived at approximately 7pm and found out that Julie was 5cm dilated and that we were staying because the baby was coming! Julie and Ted settled in to their room while things progressed. At approximately 9pm, after a very long bath to help the pain, Julie had progressed to 7cm. Our midwife Dory, broke Julie's water and then the anesthesiologist was called to get the epidural going. Julie was in quite a bit of pain at this point and couldn't have been happier to have the anesthesiologist arrive.
At midnight on October 14, Dory let us know that Julie was 10cm and that it was time to begin pushing. With Ted and the Grandma's there to share the birth, Julie began pushing at 12:10pm and after 21 minutes, the baby was born. Ted shouted "it's a girl" and everyone was overjoyed.
Madison Patricia Davis was born at 12:31am on Friday, October 14, 2011. She weighed in at 7lbs 5oz and was 19.5 inches long. She has so much dark hair. We couldn't have been more happy with the way the birth went and with the arrival of our baby girl.
Here are some pictures from the birth!
